South African Police Service Application Forms 2017, South Africa Police Service (SAPS) application forms are used to apply to work as a police officer. You can join the police service either as a police official or a civilian employee (reservist).



The requirements to qualify to serve in SAPS are:

  • Proof of permanent residency in the Republic of South Africa (RSA).
  • Must be between 18 and 30 years old.
  • Must undergo a physical and medical examination (as determined by SAPS) and prove to be fit for the relevant post.
  • Must undergo a psychological assessment (as determined by the National Commissioner of SAPS) and prove to fit the profile of a police official.
  • Proof of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
  • Must be fluent in English and at least one other official language.
  • Must be prepared to take the oath of office.
  • Must be prepared to undergo any training (as determined by the National Commissioner of SAPS).
  • No visible tattoos that are contrary to the objectives of SAPS.
  • No previous criminal convictions – must provide fingerprints and agree to a background check.
  • Must be prepared to serve anywhere in South Africa.

SAPS application forms must be filled out by hand in black ink. SAPS application form must also be signed under oath in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths. Applications must be supported by:

  • A certified copy of SA identity document.
  • An ID photo.
  • A certified copy of senior certificate/matric certificate.
  • Copies of post-school qualification.
  • Copy of driver’s licence (if applicable).

SAPS application forms for training

Anyone applying for a career with SAPS will have to undergo intense training. Every year SAPS offers learnerships within each province of South Africa. Most learnership programs are for a duration of 24 months.

Candidates must apply for SAPS training in the province where they reside. Therefore, SAPS application forms for trainees must be obtained from and submitted (in person) to the SAPS department offices within the region/province in which you live.

The closing date for training applications may differ depending on the different departments of SAPS. Candidates are advised to check the closing date for applications with their local police office.
