GCC Requirements Department of Labour
The Government Certificate of Competency is issued to GCC Candidates who pass both the Plant Engineering and Occupation Health & Safety Act exams. Candidates need to be given permission by the Commission of Examiners from the Department of Labour prior to writing the GCC Factories exams.
GCC Requirements from Department of Labour for Obtaining Certificate of Competency
The general GCC requirements from Commission of Examiners are:

Candidates must pass both exams by at least 50%.

Candidates do not have to pass both the exams at the same sitting. However, the second subject must be passed within three (3) years from passing the first subject.

Candidates who get 75% or more for a subject, they will be exempt from re-writing that subject.

The exam sittings are conducted yearly during June and November.

Candidates need to also apply to write the exam with the Commission of Examiners. Candidates need to apply (with the permission to write exams from Commission of Examiners in hand) at their nearest TVET College prior to exam date.
GCC Requirements from Commission of Examiners for obtaining Permission to Write GCC Factories Exams
Candidates need to formally apply to the Commission of Examiners. The requirements for acceptance as GCC Candidate depends on the qualification and experience of the Candidate.
Candidates need to be in the position of a Bachelors, National Higher Diploma or National Technical Diploma.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Candidate Requirements

Must be at least 23 years of age.

Must have illustrated general good conduct during the course of his career.

Must be in the position of a Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Electrical engineering recognised by the Commission of Examiners.

Must have at least 2 years post graduate experience in maintenance and operation of mechanical or electrical machinery. The experience needs to be to the satisfaction of the Commission of Examiners.
National Higher Diploma (T4) or National Diploma (S4) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Candidate Requirements

Must be at least 23 years of age.

Must have illustrated general good conduct during the course of his career.

Must be in position of a National Higher Diploma (T4) or National Diploma (S4) in mechanical or electrical engineering

Must at least have 2 years post graduate experience in maintenance and operations of mechanical or electrical machinery. The experience needs to be to the satisfaction of the Commission of Examiners.

Must have at least 1-year experience in a Factory.

Must pass all Plant Engineering TVET College subjects by at least 50%.

Must have received necessary practical training to obtain National Higher Diploma (T4) or National Diploma (S4).
National Technical N6 Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Candidate Requirements

Must be at least 23 years of age.

Must have illustrated general good conduct during the course of his career.

Must be in the position of a National Technical N6 Diploma in mechanical or electrical engineering.

Must have passed all subjects from the National Technical N6 Diploma by at least 50%.

Must have served an apprenticeship in an appropriate trade and gained appropriate years of experience in maintenance and operation of mechanical or electrical machinery.

Must have at least one (1) years’ experience in a factory.

All experience reported shall be to the satisfaction of the Commission of Examiners.

Must complete Plant Engineering Syllabus structured by TVET College and as set out in technical college course pass the subjects by at least 50%.
