Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, Office of the Family Advocate – Pietermaritzburg
We are a government/public organisation. Our family advocates are legal officers employed by the Department of Justice who act as legal representatives for children. We deal with disputes between parents or family members over the parental responsibility and rights of children, through mediation.
We render our services to the public free of charge, however, the parties to a legal dispute may be required to pay for additional expert reports, for example psychological evaluation and other forensic tests where those are critical to the determination of the child’s best interests. Our offices are open from 07:45 to 16:15, Monday to Friday.
