Department Of Environmental Affairs Jefferson Parish, The Jefferson Parish Department of Environmental Affairs is responsible for the following federally-mandated programs:
(1)Industrial Pretreatment, which regulates industrial discharges to the Parish sewerage treatment system;
(2)Stormwater Management, which through public education and regulations strives to reduce pollutants entering Lake Pontchartrain and the Barataria Basin via our storm drainage system;
(3)Coastal Zone Management, which regulates certain uses within the coastal zone and also develops, seeks funding for, and implements coastal protection/restoration projects;
(4)Industrial Development and Research, which reviews all non-residential building permit applications for compliance;
(5)Solid Waste Management, which manages the Parish-owned Landfill, the contract for Curbside Collection of Garbage and Recyclable Materials, the Trash Drop-Off locations, and serves to protect the public health, environment and aesthetic qualities of the community by enforcing Parish solid waste regulations;
(6)Mosquito and Rodent Control, which provides an integrated pest management program for abatement of disease vector and nuisance mosquitoes, and offers inspections and guidance for rodent control.
In addition to these six major programs, we respond to all citizen complaints/inquiries of an environmental nature and provide field investigation and research to advise Parish Administration, Council, and local municipalities on matters related to the environment. We assist all Parish departments and agencies in maintaining overall compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations.
