Department Of Economic Development Limpopo

The Department of Economic Development is the department of the South African government responsible for economic policy, economic planning, and economic development. It was established in 2009 after the election of President Jacob Zuma.



In the 2011/12 budget, the department had a budget of R595 million and a staff complement of 45 civil servants.

The mission of the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism is to enable a competitive economy and sustainable environmental and tourism development towards an improved quality of life for all.



The Department’s strategic goals are to improve the service delivery to communities and stakeholders through a skilled, accountable, empowered, and integrated Public Service; contribute to the growth of the economy and job creation through targeted interventions; protect and enhance environmental assets and natural resources, and have Limpopo positioned as the preferred tourist destination within the South African Development Community (SADC).

Mission
To achieve this vision, the department leads the Western Cape economy using its understanding of the regional economy, its ability to identify economic opportunities and potential, and its contribution to government economic priorities.
