Department Of Arts And Culture Resignation, The DA in KwaZulu-Natal welcomes the resignation of Arts and Culture Head of Department, Sibongile Nzimande, who has cited early retirement as the reason for her departure.

The DA in KwaZulu-Natal welcomes the resignation of Arts and Culture Head of Department, Sibongile Nzimande, who has cited early retirement as the reason for her departure.
The announcement was made during a portfolio committee meeting held earlier this week.
The HOD’s resignation comes after a dismal performance by the department over the last three financial year with ongoing qualified audits from the Auditor-General.
To make matters worse, the department continues to be rocked by factions amongst Senior Management which both the HOD and the previous MEC have failed to resolve. Furthermore, an investigation is also currently underway into suspicious expenditure on several fronts, including the purchase of musical instruments which are yet to be distributed and have been lying in storage for almost three years. Other expenditure red flags include the KZN Music House and the Midlands Meander.
The department’s under expenditure on conditional Grants has also severely affected service delivery to KZN communities. Meanwhile, the only event scheduled for the Indian community, “Western Rendezvous” has not yet taken place, causing much unhappiness within this community.
The roll-out of other community facilities such has libraries has also been severely affected.
There can be no doubt that this department is on a downward spiral. KZN’s Arts and Culture needs a skilled HOD if this unacceptable situation it is to be turned around.
The DA is committed to monitoring this critical appointment and to ensuring that proper services are delivered to the people of KZN.
