The Science & Technology Department plays a vital role in the development and promotion of science & technology for the welfare of the people in the State. For the implementation of various schemes, programmes, and activities of the Department, different agencies such as Odisha State Council on Science & Technology(OSCOST), Odisha Space Application Centre (OSAC), Odisha Bigyan Academy (OBA), Pathani Samanta Planetarium (PSP), Institute of Mathematics & Applications (IMA) along with a Society for Development of Biotechnology are functioning under the administrative control of the Science & Technology Department.
Science & Technology Department implements a good number of schemes & programs for the propagation of science education & communication, research & development, training, and capacity building in the areas of space technology application, Biotechnology, with a view to inculcate a scientific temper and rational attitude among the students in particular and public in general.
Vision
The vision of Science & Technology Department is to engage the people of the state in science, the students to cultivate and enrich science education, research, innovation, and communication, and the industry and academia to partner in pursuit of promoting science and technology and strengthening the scientific capability of the state.
Objectives
- To popularise science and technology for the benefit of students and for the common man.
- To portray the growth of science and technology and their application in industry and human welfare, with a view to develop scientific attitude and temper and to create, inculcate and sustain a general awareness amongst the people.
- To encourage science education, communication and technology transfer.
- To promote higher education in mathematics and its applications.
- To encourage application oriented research in the field of Basic & Applied Sciences.
- To promote and encourage Biotechnology education, research, start-up, skill & entrepreneurship development.
- To encourage investment in Biotech-Industry, Park and clusters.
- To promote integrated use of space and information technology in development planning and decision making.
- To create awareness among the people in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Space Sciences.
- To provide financial support to Institutions/ Organizations to conduct Seminars/ Workshops/ Science competitions/ Science Exhibitions etc.
- To provide financial support to Scientists/ Academicians of the State to participate in National and International Conferences for cross learning.
